I really like this idea. I will pass this on to the Spanish teachers at my school. It seems that this activity would really bring the grammar and culture alive for the students.
Emilia,
This is a great topic. Look at how much discussion it has produced. Should we do something about this in our next newsletter? Do you have any ideas as to how to do this? Let's discuss next Sat.
Emilia,
Good points. Jennie really lucked out having her as our invited speaker. I remember hearing roars of laughter coming from the room where Marcia was giving her workshop at our conference. People really loved it. I will try to incorporate some…
You're into cooking too? Is there anything you are not interested in and expert about? I have never seen this series but will check it out. Haven't taught Spanish in a while but have always been a big fan of Spain since I first set foot there in 197…
Way to go, Emilia! I loved this summary of the conference, agree with everything you said, and especially appreciated your comments about Rosetta Stone. That was frightening and I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it. I agree with you about…
For our practice evacuations, we walk all the way to the football stadium and sit in the bleachers, take attendance, sit around for about 10 minutes and walk back again. This takes at least 30 minutes because of the distance involved. I have asked w…
Hi Emilia, When my kids were little, every time we traveled in France, we let them pick a souvenir for themselves. Now we have a shelf full of souvenirs that are tacky in a little kid sort of way. We have several dolls in folkloric costumes from var…
I feel the same way, Emily. I don't know why, but I feel this way every year. I can hardly wait to get back in the classroom and then feel like I need to have my head read by mid-winter! Go figure!
I am currently the President-Elect of MIWLA and am particularly interested in hearing from members about what they would like to see at the 2010 Conference. I teach French and Spanish in Mason, MI.,

Given our schedules, it looks like Tuesday at 4 or Wednesday anytime would work. Let me know which you prefer!
I am free every day except Thursday between about 10:30 am and 12:00 noon. I am free after school starting at about 4pm on Tues, and Friday. I am enjoying Ning! Hope you are having a great weekend.
We have also moved to trimesters this year, and it is definitely a challenge - but a good one I think! Sometimes change can bring new life back into my teaching.
Of course I remember you! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. I have others I should post, but just haven't had time. How are things going for you these days? Looks like you'll have your hands full for awhile (as President-Elect)! ;-)
I believe we did meet at the conference. I was Daryl Biallas' student teacher last year. This is my first year teaching and I'm at Lamphere High School working with Allysen Clancy. I am enjoying it so much. As for next year's conference I would really like a workshop for ideas on creating authentic assessments in place of written quizzes and tests. I'm very familiar with the new Standards and Benchmarks and have attended Jackie's workshops at Oakland Schools but I'd like to see more ideas of how to assess differently, more authentically. That's my only idea off the top of my head but I'd be happy to send you more ideas as they come to me. Thanks for writing me back. This is a great new tool for sharing ideas. I'm happy Allysen invited me to join. Happy Snow Day!! Sincerely, Nancy
